About this event

Fiona Lai Ching Wong

Hong Kong-born ceramic artist Fiona Wong Lai Ching will discuss her art making process: how inspiration, through studies and material process, transforms into a work of art. Historical and cultural references have created an array of different themes in her works. The three art projects covered in the talk were carried out between 2015 and 2019.They include “Still Life” as an artistic response to the late Qing Dynasty painter Ju Lian’s work, “Gogasha”-- a ceramic installation made for the Sixth Echigo Tsunami Triennale to pay tribute to a sentimental story of love and family bonds in Japan, and “Chronicle of Law Uk Retold by Art”-- a research project of Hakka culture exhibited in a folk museum in Hong Kong. The talk will also highlight collections in her studio, whether natural or manmade, which are important sources of inspiration for the artist.
