The much-anticipated second series of Killing Eve returns to our screens on Saturday 8 June and it has a brand new character.

Nina Sosanya plays Jess, a sassy, straight-speaking Intelligence Officer employed by MI6 to track down the charming, psychopathic assassin Villanelle.  And what gives Jess her cutting edge?  She is a SOAS alumna, of course!

Jess is described as having studied Arabic at SOAS, so “she was basically asking to be recruited.”

Killing Eve

The first series of Killing Eve was adapted for TV by Phoebe Waller-Bridge from the Codename Villanelle series of novels, written by Luke Jennings.

The show was an instant success with viewers and critics alike, and wiped the floor at the recent BAFTAs, winning the award for Outstanding Drama Series, as well as Best Actor awards for its leads Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw.

Want to study Arabic like Jess?

The Middle East has been of vital geostrategic importance throughout its history and never more so than at the present time. Its location at the juncture of Africa, Asia and Europe has made it into a singularly rich meeting point of cultures, languages and religions.

There is no better way to get to know this complex and pivotal part of the world than by studying its languages.  They are the key to communicate with its people, to unlock its culture and history and to engage with it for the purpose of a career.

SOAS degrees in Arabic, Modern Hebrew, Persian and Turkish offer an unrivalled opportunity to do just this.
