Modules draw from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives, concepts and methods including business economics, environmental policy, human geography, social development, the political economy and environmental law.

This programme provides a unique specialisation in a rapidly evolving area of law, covering traditional nature conservation and pollution as well as the broader use and conservation of natural resource.
This programme combines environmental concerns with development economics and political economy. It draws on the multi-disciplinary expertise of SOAS and area specialisations in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
This programme takes a critical political ecology frame and examines environmental policy and its intersections with development from a social justice angle
Our research in action
The Law, Environment and Development Centre (LEDC) at SOAS seeks to provide a focal point to expand the increasing interest in the dynamic relationships between the fields of law, environment and development. LEDC adopts multidisciplinary approaches in researching key issues in environmental law and development today; including, water, land use, forests, climate change, intellectual property and indigenous people’s rights.
A joint initiative between LEDC and the National Law University, Delhi have been working together on the area of environmental law, particularly the impact of climate change on groundwater and suggest improvements in the legal and policy framework.
