Thinking about postgraduate study
Further study is a huge commitment in terms of time and money, so it's important to understand it properly to make sure it's the right option for you. It's worth taking some time to think beyond your basic motivation. Further study will not automatically get you a better job, but it can improve your chances if the employer requires the specialism you have developed. For some professions postgraduate qualifications are essential, e.g. for teaching in higher education and for legal careers. Often a postgraduate course is just one possible route to gaining experience and entry to a sector, such as in journalism, museum work, environmental work, and international development
Please find some resources to help you decide whether to pursue postgraduate study, what to study and where to study it. Current students can also look at the resources we have available on MySOAS Student.
