Summary

The talk by the Centre of African Studies’ Leventis Post-Doctoral scholar Mustapha Adebayo Bello (PhD) is about the emerging visibility of female spiritual leadership amongst the Yorubas of South West Nigeria. The different areas of convergence and divergence in Christendom and Islam as well as the different reactions of the established religious authorities and the discerning public form the basis of the research.

Speaker Biography

Mustapha Adebayo Bello (PhD), is an emerging scholar in the study of the adaptability of Islam in its pristine principles to cultures of receiving peoples (converts and admirers) whose philosophy and orientation is clearly different. He currently heads the Islamic Studies Unit of the Department of Religions and Peace Studies of the Lagos State University, Lagos Nigeria.
