Abina and the Important Men is a lightly animated film adaptation of the award-winning graphic history by Trevor R. Getz and Liz Clarke. It tells the story of Abina Mansah, a very real 19th century women in West Africa who challenged both the colonial system and institutions of enslavement. The film is the product of a community of students and scholars from the departments of Africana Studies, Theater, Cinema, and History at San Francisco State University.
