Antonio "Toni" Negri is an Italian Marxist sociologist and political philosopher, best known for his co-authorship of Empire, and secondarily for his work on Spinoza.

He will be giving a talk on 'Chi sono i Comunisti?' - Who are the Communists?

The talk will be in Italian, but a translated abstract will be available.
Discussion will be in Italian, French and English.

This talk marks the publication of his most recent collection of essays in English, Marx and Foucault [Cambridge: Polity Press, 2017]. This is the first of a trilogy which “explores key ideas that have animated radical thought and examines some of the social and economic forces that are shaping our world today”. Copies of the book will be available at the event.

The meeting will include a short introduction by Ed Emery [SOAS], the translator of that book.

After the meeting there will be a drinks receptionl, with Italian music and song, organised by the event’s co-sponsors, the SOAS Ceilidh Band in the Junior Common Room.
