Labour Conditions and the Working Poor in China and India (ESRC-DFID Project, 2009-2014)

Researchers in the Development Studies Department, led by Dr Jens Lerche and assisted by CDPR, obtained £362,778 of funding from the ESRC-DFID for research on labour conditions in China and India. The SOAS researchers joined forces with partners in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Polytechnic University) and Delhi (JNU) to conduct surveys on conditions within the garment and construction sectors of these two countries. These are the core sectors for the working poor outside of agriculture in these countries.
