This two-day joint conference hosted by the SOAS China Institute (SCI) and China Academy of Social Management (CASA) at Beijing Normal University is intended to be the first in a series of research-intensive exchanges between the SCI and CASA. The theme of the conference is “Comparative Chinese and British Research Perspectives on Social and Administrative Modernization”.

Five SOAS scholars (Professor Robert Ash, Professor Peter Ho, Dr Jieyu Liu, Dr Tim Pringle, Dr Damian Tobin) will present their research and a further three Western experts: Professor Kjeld Erik Brodsgaard (Copenhagen Business School), Mr Rod Wye (Chatham House), Professor Douglas Fuller (Zhejiang University) will be part of the SOAS delegation, as will SOAS China Institute Director, Professor Michel Hockx.
