Sir David Tang (Founder of Shanghai Tang, China Club, Pacific Cigars, China Tang, ICorrect and TangTangTangTang)

David Tang was born in Hong Kong and educated locally and at boarding school in Britain, where he read philosophy at University and attended law college.  In 1983, he lived in China and taught at Peking University.

He worked in oil exploration off-shore China, and gold mining in Africa and Australia.  He founded Shanghai Tang, China Club, Pacific Cigars, China Tang, ICorrect and TangTangTangTang. He has been director and advisor to Blackstone, Tommy Hilfiger, the Savoy Group of Hotels, British Airways and Versace. He has also been honoured by the French Government as "Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" in 1995.

In London, he is a Trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts, Chairman of the Tate’s Asia-Pacific Acquisitions Committee, President of the London Bach Society and Adviser to the London Symphony Orchestra and Carnegie Hall. He is also Vice-Chairman of the European Organisation of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). In Hong Kong, he was Founding Chairman of the HK Cancer Fund and HK Down Syndrome Association.  He is Patron of the Royal Geographical Society HK as well as the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation. He is also President of the "Royal Commonwealth Society HK.”
