The Dissertation in English is a major critical essay requiring significant independent research and initiative. Objectives and learning outcomes of the module
On successful completion of the essay the student will have:
- Conceptualised a topic that makes an original contribution to English Studies, extending or developing ideas as appropriate from English modules undertaken in the course of their degree
- Engaged critically with existing scholarship in the field of English Studies
- Demonstrated their initiative and capacity to carry out a substantial piece of academic work in a sustained way
- Demonstrated skills in time management and organisation
- Presented their work to a very high standard
Method of asessment
- Bibliography/research proposal/outline of 1,000-1,500 words (worth 15% of marks)
- Dissertation of 8,000 words (worth 85%)
