The purpose of this course is to enable students to acquire the ability to engage in independent research and to give them some experience of detailed research in a specific area. It involves the completion of a 5,000 word essay on an approved topic within the areas of interest of the department. In the first instance, the student should approach the course convenor for advice regarding the most suitable supervisor for his/her essay topic. The topic should have a title and a short outline (max. 300 words). The essay topic must be agreed by the supervisor/s within the Department, and approved by the course convenor, who must sign the Extended Essay Approval Form for the proposal. For Extended Essays written during Term 1, this must be returned to the Faculty Office no later than the end of teaching week 2 of Term 1.
For Extended Essays written during Term 1, the deadline for submission is the first day of Term 2.
