Directed Studies on an East Asian Language A

This module is based on directed studies on a topic agreed with the supervisor. The topic should be related to language policy, language history, cultural background, or linguistic background of a specific language area.

Prerequisites

Only available at the discretion of the Learning Teaching Coordinator under special circumstances in order to replace language modules.

Objectives and learning outcomes of the module

On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate some knowledge of the language policy, language history, cultural or linguistic background of the language area studied.
2. Show familiarity with some of the key texts relates to the study of a particular language area.

Workload

Two hours of one-to-one supervision given to a student on this module.

Method of assessment

One essay of 2000 words (100%).

Assessment deadlines will be published on the relevant moodle page or advised by the teaching staff.

This is a specific project to be agreed by the convenor of this module.  Languages in East Asia are generally well covered by SOAS library.
