The module looks at the various components of the international legal system the engage with peace, from the pacific settlement of disputes through to peace processes and peacekeeping. This is framed through feminist and gender approaches to peace and broader theories on peace and the right to peace

Workload

Two hours lecture per week.

Scope and syllabus

The module will cover the following topics:

Theories and activism

The pacific settlement of disputes

Peace agreements

Peacekeeping: status of forces and mandates

Peacekeeping: discipline and command of forces

Peace enforcement and robust peacekeeping

Peace building and the post conflict space

Contemporary issues on peace and post conflict societies

Method of assessment

Students are to design their own coursework project that responds to the materials on the module.

Assessment Proposal: 10% of total module mark

3000 word essay: 90% of total module mark
