Objectives and learning outcomes of the module
By the end of this module, students will have gained insight into research methodology and a deeper understanding of the academic discourse in Korean-language literature in relation to the chosen topic and developed research skills that may assist in preparation for the MA dissertation. The student will gain both insight into Korean perspectives on the subject (which may be significantly different to more familiar English-language perspectives) and a deeper understanding of the Korean language.
This module is taught over 10 weeks with 1.5 hours per week in a seminar.
Scope and syllabus
The objective of this module is to provide the student with the opportunity to carry out study and research on a specific area of interest in greater depth and breadth than more traditional lecture-based courses permit. The module will be supervised by the tutor whose own research interests best match those of the student. In this module the focus will be on Korean-language material. This module can be taken on it's own or together with the course Directed Readings in Korean A.
Method of assessment
A review of 1,000 words submitted on day 1, week 7 in the term in which the course is taught (20%). An essay of 2000 words to be submitted on day 1, term after which the course is taught (80%).
A reading list will be derived, in collaboration between the student and the tutor, depending on the specific area of research proposed.
