This is an upper intermediate language acquisition module, and builds on knowledge acquired in Arabic 1A, Arabic 1B, Arabic 2A, Arabic 2B and Arabic 3A. Students study authentic Arabic texts of various writing genres and gain further knowledge of grammar (syntax and structure). The module develops students' competence equally in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

Objectives and learning outcomes of the module

This module is a continuation of Arabic 3A. It will reinforce the skills taught in Arabic 1A, Arabic 1B, Arabic 2A, Arabic 2B and Arabic 3A, and introduce authentic Arabic texts. Upon completion of this module, students will be able to read authentic texts of various genres in Modern Standard Arabic with the help of a dictionary, and communicate in Arabic at the intermediate level.


Total of 10 weeks teaching with 5 hours classroom contact per week

1 x in class written and spoken test (30%)
1 x 2hr unseen written exam in May/June (40%)
1 x 15min oral exam in May/June (30%)
