  2. Knowledge and understanding of a substantial range of Arabic vocabulary
  3. Knowledge and understanding of a substantial range of Arabic texts
  4. Ability to produce written Arabic at a higher intermediate level
  5. Ability to understand and operate at a substantial range of Arabic registers
  6. Ability to communicate in Arabic at a higher intermediate level
  7. Knowledge and understanding of the role of language in general, and Arabic in particular, in language-based scholarship and research (specific learning outcome for PG students)

Workload

This module will be taught over 10 weeks with 5 hours classroom contact per week

Scope and syllabus

The module provides teaching and learning of higher intermediate level Arabic language.  It covers a wide variety of texts coverning literature, politics, religion, science, etc.

Teaching will cover reading, analysing, writing, listening and speaking.

Method of assessment

  • End-of-term test, 1 hour 30 minutes (15%)
  • End-of-year oral exam, 15 minutes (25%)
  • End-of-year written exam (60%)
