Module overview
This module introduces theories and frameworks from international trade and business, internationalization of firms, international entrepreneurship, cross-cultural management, marketing and strategy. Students are expected to build up knowledge and skills in the international management field, which will contribute to their understanding of related modules on the MSc International Business Programme by using ideas, concepts, techniques and materials to explain issues involved in international management.
Objectives and learning outcomes of the module
On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Critically explain and analyse theories of internationalisation;
- Discuss the impacts of national culture, country risks and opportunities on internationalisation of firms;
- Assess internationalisation strategies and organisation structures;
- Understand international business operations in global production, marketing and human resource management;
- Explain and assess the patterns and trends of foreign direct investment;
- Discuss firm practices in the internationalisation process independently and critically;
- Discuss, explain and critique concepts in writing; and
- Explore and assess a range of alternative use of resources.
