Module overview

This module will provide students with a firm understanding of key elements relating to the development of the economies and the business environment of Japan and Korea from an international management perspective.

Taking a multidisciplinary approach, students will be introduced to a wide range of relevant areas including economics, international trade, human resources and business management. The module will introduce the background of the economic and business structures of Japan and Korea and will look at factors that influence management and business such as business and management practices, cultural aspects of business, Labour Market changes, demographics and Gender Diversity. Students will also reflect on the issues faced by businesses entering the Japanese and Korean market and will look at how these countries fit into a global context.

Objectives and learning outcomes of the module

Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

  • Develop a fundamental understanding of relevant and current business and management issues in Japan and Korea
  • Develop critical thinking skills through an analysis of the recent business developments in this region
  • Develop academic styles of synthesis, analysis and communication through peer discussions and written essays and examination
  • Evaluate and assess a range of managerial and business practices
  • Research and review different business publications and academic literature using electronic information and library facilities
