Module overview
This intermediate module introduces further grammatical aspects of the modern Korean language and aims at improving the students' all-round language skills in reading, listening, speaking, and writing by mastering topics at a suitable linguistic level. Students begin studying topics relevant to modern Korea, using authentic Korean texts in an effort to better prepare to deal with original Korean source materials. By the end of the module, students will be able to deal with guided reading of literary and non-literary texts and complete and demonstrate their own Korean project using books and online sources.

15PJKC025: Intensive Elementary Korean
Objectives and learning outcomes of the module
On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:
- knowledge and understanding of intermediate Korean grammar
- knowledge and understanding of a wide range of Korean vocabulary
- knowledge and understanding of the appropriateness of a wide range of Korean structures and expressions in a given context
- the ability to understand and to produce passages written in Korean of medium length on everyday and some specialized topics
- the ability to understand spoken Korean and to engage in short spoken discourse on everyday and some specialized topics
Workload
Total taught hours: 100 hours. 2 hours of lectures and 2 hour of seminars and 1 hour language laboratory per week for 20 weeks.
Independent study: 200 hours
Total hours for module: 300 hours
Scope and syllabus
The module provides training of a combination of all language skills which include grammar, reading and writing, listening and speaking, and translation. Students will develop further understanding of Korean grammar and explore current topics in contemporary Korea.
Method of assessment
A three-hour written examination taken in May/June (60%)
