McAdam, Tarrow and Tilly’s 2001 book, The Dynamics of Contention (DoC) is a landmark in the study of contentious politics. What contribution can the DoC programme make to the study of protest in the Middle East and North Africa in the light of the recent Arab uprisings? Is the DoC programme a much needed corrective to structuralism and objectivism, or is it a diversion from the analysis of power, oppression and resistance in the region? These questions and others pertaining to this vast topic will be addressed in this cordial debate.

Free entrance, no advance booking, first come first seated.
