The programme was highly recommended to me by some friends who studied it and went on to excel in their careers afterwards. The programme had a personal resonance for me as a person who survived the violence and conflict that ravaged my home country, Syria.
My whole time at SOAS was the highlight. I had the unique opportunity to meet and study alongside an incredibly diverse cohort of students from different backgrounds which was enriching in social, cultural and academic terms. I also had the extraordinary opportunity to be supervised and taught by some of the most critical, knowledgeable academics in the field.
I joined the United Nations Migration Agency after completing my programme at SOAS. I work as a cross-cultural facilitator working directly with resettled refugees and their host communities across the United Kingdom. A key component of my work is to provide training and orientation sessions to local authorities, local and national support groups and refugees with the aim of raising cross-cultural awareness, foster integration and community cohesion prospects.
I must say that the programme at SOAS was a life-transforming experience and one of the biggest milestones. It provided me with key analytical skills that helped broaden my world view which has been instrumental in my personal and professional growth and development.
