MSc Migration Mobility and Development 2010-2011
Coming from a family with a long history of migration and having studied Arabic living in the Middle East, I’d witnessed what it means for families to be broken up because of migration, and how people respond. The programme gave me the opportunity to be taught by and discover the world around us with world class academics in the field of migration.
The highlight was writing my dissertation on mobility and environment in Morocco. I was grateful to be able to continue learning Arabic during my MSc at SOAS and was encouraged by academics to go for relevant opportunities, including an Erasmus training course on the Euro-Mediterranean region and a UK Irrigation Association-sponsored trip to Morocco.
My experiences on the MSc Programme inspired the launch of Chouette Films (chouettefilms.co.uk) – a film production company committed to using film as a tool for social change. I co-founded this social enterprise and it is now based at SOAS, working with academics to help research projects deliver impact around the world. I am also a PhD by Practice student at the University of Exeter/ London Film School, exploring the role of the producer in documentary filmmaking for social change.
