Annual Progression Review

The Annual Report Form (reffered to as the Annual Progression Overview on PhD Manager) is a recurring milestone in the PhD/MPhil programme and provides both students and supervisors the opportunity to reflect on the activities undertaken in the current academic year. These include:

- a record of progress over the year
- reflection of the interactions between both and with other mentors or peers
- academic activities such as fieldwork, conference attendance, or publications which have taken place during the year

Completion of Annual Report Form is neccessary to enable continued enrolment in subsequent academic years. Continued enrolment on the programme is a requirement of the Postgraduate Research Degree Regulations and Code of Practice for Postgraduate Research Degrees.

Continued enrolment is expected for all Postgraduate researchers who have not yet received a successful Viva outcome along with confirmation their thesis needs no amendments (further amendments where corrections have not been requested).

Only in this instance or where a student has requested termination of their enrolment status (withdrawal) will an Annual Report Form not be needed.

Postgraduate researchers failing to make satisfactory progress on their programme, or those who are required to but have not completed an Annual Report Form, may be subject to withdrawal.

How to complete this

In order to begin the process, supervisors will need to select the Annual Progression option, under the respective student’s record on PhD Manager and complete the respective form.

It is advisable for supervisors and researchers to meet (online or in person) and complete the form together, as reports require input from both of parties. You may want to use a supervisory meeting to undertake this. Once you are both satisfied with the content of the form, the supervisor will submit this along with a decision on the progress. The form will then be sent to the student to confirm the content of the form, and for any additional notes they may want to add, before it is sent to the Doctoral School for processing.

Relevant deadlines

The deadline for submission of the Annual Report Form (for those needing continued enrolment in 2022/23) is 31st July 2022. Please ensure that submission of the form is made by this date as any late submission may cause delays to your enrolment record for the next academic year.
