Enrolment for new students

Enrolment Information for IFCELS

If you are taking one of our IFCELS programmes, you will receive all the joining information for your programme from the IFCELS department.

Please see the IFCLES webpage for more information on your programme of study.  The IFCELS department will contact you directly with information regarding your enrolment at SOAS - so keep an eye out for their emails.

If you haven't heard from them regarding your enrolment, please email them direct on ifcels@soas.ac.uk.

Documentation at Enrolment

As there has been some changes to the UKVI regulations this year, please read the information below on what we need to see at your enrolment session.

We are required to verify the ID of all of our students and therefore we need to see the following documents at enrolment:

EEA students
  • Passport or EU Nationality Card; or UK Full Driving Licence - If you don’t hold any of these, we might accept other forms of photo ID. Please ask to see the Enrolment Manager when you arrive at the enrolment hall, who’ll let you know whether your alternatives are acceptable; and
  • Evidence you’ve paid your fees, or evidence of your sponsorship - You should pay your fees or give us your loan/sponsorship details before or during the enrolment process; and
  • Your offer letter (either in hard copy, or saved on your phone/laptop/tablet) – this may be required by your Faculty

Non-EEA students (who made a visa application inside of the UK)
  • Passport; and
  • Visa (either a temporary visa within your passport or a full biometric card); and
  • Evidence you’ve paid your fees, or evidence of your sponsorship - You should pay your fees or give us your loan/sponsorship details before or during the enrolment process; and
  • Your offer letter (either in hard copy, or saved on your phone/laptop/tablet) – this may be required by your Faculty

Non-EEA students (who made a visa application outside of the UK)
  • Passport; and
  • Visa (either within your passport or a biometric card); and
  • Visa Confirmation Letter (which is provided by the UKVI confirming your visa and details for collection of your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP); and
  • Evidence you’ve paid your fees, or evidence of your sponsorship - You should pay your fees or give us your loan/sponsorship details before or during the enrolment process; and
  • Your offer letter (either in hard copy, or saved on your phone/laptop/tablet) – this may be required by your Faculty

Due to regulation changes this year, you will have been provided with a temporary visa in your passport and you must collect your permanent Biometric Residence Permit on arrival from the Post Office listed on your Visa confirmation letter.

You will be able to enrol with the temporary visa, but we must see your Biometric Residence Permit before your temporary visa expires, which will involve returning to the IFCELS office with this Permit as soon as you have collected it.  We therefore strongly advise that you collect your Biometric Card before you attend your enrolment session if at all possible, to avoid having to return before your temporary visa expires.

If you’re in the process of applying for a visa, we’ll need to see the following instead:

  • A photocopy of the photo page of your passport; and
  • A photocopy of your current/previous visa; and
  • A copy of your visa application - It should clearly show the type of visa you’ve applied for and if it’s a Tier 4 Student Visa, we’ll need to see the section showing your CAS number and our sponsorship. (We suggest you print off the whole document and bring the whole document you submitted to the UKVI to ensure we have the evidence we need).
