Collecting your SOAS ID card

Your SOAS identity card serves multiple purposes. In addition to proving your identity, it controls your access to SOAS buildings and allows entry to the library.

Why Your SOAS ID Card Matters

This is an important part of SOAS security provision and we ask that you keep this safe and carry it with you at all times whilst on campus, to help us provide you with a safe and secure environment in which to work and study.

What's on Your ID Card

On the front of each ID card is the cardholder's name, photograph, SOAS student number and your card expiry date. On the back of the card, you will find information related to Fire procedures as well as designated points while on the campus.

Submitting Your Photo

To submit a picture for your ID card, please ensure that the photo meets the following criteria:

  • SOAS Student ID number
  • Recent Photo
  • Clear background
  • No sunglasses or any other accessories that may obstruct your face.

Please email your photo to campussecurity@soas.ac.uk with your details.

Where do I collect my SOAS ID card?

During Welcome Week, we kindly request all new students to make their way to the Paul Webley building on the ground floor (room SG38) between 8:00am and 6:00pm to collect their new student IDs. Please don't forget to bring your confirmation of enrolment email for verification.

After Welcome Week, The ID card printing station will be relocated to the Paul Webley reception area with same operating hours as during welcome week. For the remainder for the year, ID cards are issued at the Campus Security Office, located in the Main Building on the lower ground floor. You can stop by Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm.

If this is your first SOAS ID, then simply bring your confirmation of enrolment email for verification and no appointment is necessary.

Updating Your Information

If you believe your name or course details are incorrect, please use the Student Information Desk (SID) to raise a query. Choose ‘Change to Personal Details’ from the menu and pick ‘other’ as the request type’ in the form.

Your query will then be looked into by the relevant team.
