External funding

There are a number of funders who serve the arts, humanities and social sciences. You can find a table of information on the main relevant funders and funding schemes on MySOAS. If you already know which funder you are interested in, you can find a list of relevant funders on the main page of the SOAS section of Research Professional, which you can use to search opportunities by funder.

There are a number of other ways to find funding opportunities.

Research & Knowledge Exchange Development Officers

The Research & Knowledge Exchange Development Officers are your first point of contact when looking for funding opportunities, and they will assist you with all stages of project development and other pre-award related issues. You can find the names and contact details of your department's Officer on our Support for SOAS Researchers main page

Research Professional

Research Professional Logo

There are many ways to search for funding opportunities, but the simplest way is to log in to Research Professional with your SOAS ID and start searching. For advice on how to find the right funding opportunity for you see the User guide. Alternatively, Research Professional have developed a new “research fingerprinting” mechanism so that when you log in using your SOAS ID, Research Professional knows what your research interests are and has automatically selected relevant opportunities.

MySOAS

In addition to the list of main funders and funding schemes on MySOAS, you can also find a list of Open Calls, which are opportunities that you can apply to at any time.

You will need to log in to MySOAS using your SOAS credentials.

Weekly Research Funding Bulletin

The Research Office circulates a weekly bulletin via email which shares research news, details of research events and opportunities for training, and a number of new funding opportunities. If you are a researcher at SOAS, you will automatically receive this.

Research Centres and Clusters at SOAS

Another approach to find funding opportunities is to connect with the various academic networks that exist at SOAS. The easiest way would be to query the various research centres and clusters at SOAS about relevant networks and initiatives.

Funding Events and Opportunities

The Research & Knowledge Exchange unit often hosts funder visits and talks and organises presentations and workshops all aimed at increasing your awareness of suitable funding opportunities and how to develop competitive applications. These are announced regularly through the Research Office Funding Bulletin.
