About this event:

Food and power in Somalia have been intimately linked for decades. Ranging from land grabs and the manipulation of food aid, to looting and diversion of aid and the geopolitics of the War on Terror, food has played a role in Somalia’s political economy. At this event, we will present and discuss how the political economy of food has changed over the past 10-15 years with changes in governance and in food assistance. Susanne Jaspars will present key issues arising from a 2019 study on this topic, and her co-researchers (Nisar Majid and Guhad Adan) will add to this with past analysis of famine and recent work on safety nets and resilience.
