Guidance for new and expectant mothers
SOAS is required by law to assess the risks to their employees, including new and expectant mothers and to do what is reasonably practicable to control those risks.
Pregnancy is not considered an illness and the health and safety implications of pregnancy can be adequately addressed by normal health and safety procedures. Any hazards in the environment that may pose a health & safety risk to new and expectant mothers should be identified.
The aim of this guidance is to ensure all employees who become pregnant undergo a risk assessment as early in their pregnancy as possible and that all reasonable and practical measures are taken to avoid or reduce hazards to new and expectant mothers
