Manual Handling

Manual handling is the biggest cause of musculoskeletal disorders in the work place.
This is largely due to the task not being assessed correctly. Training is provided for members of staff whose duties necessitate that further guidance is required.
The two main things to remember regarding manual handling are:

  1. To decide if manual handling can be avoided altogether.
  2. If not, to ensure that an adequate assessment of the risks associated with the manual handling task is carried out

For further guidance, please consult the manual handling guidance documents on this page as well as the risk assessment template which will assist you assessing a particular task and the associated risks.
