Staff Development & Review

Staff Development Review meetings (SDRs) are:
  • an opportunity for all members of staff to have substantial, uninterrupted time with their line managers for an in-depth discussion about past achievements, future goals, and personal and professional development.
  • These should happen annually and be planned and prepared for appropriately.

This session we are using an amended form - the Staff Development Review Form - 2019/20 (msword; 67kb) - based on last year's successful pilot and more clearly guiding staff to think about aspects of their own roles. It promotes a plan based approach to SDR, and encourages managers to use a coaching approach within the meeting.  If you are not familiar with the form, please ensure you read the guidance given at the end of the document. All meetings shoudl be held by 31 August 2020, and information about staff training and development needs will be collated early in Term 1.

To support managers and staff in ensuring their SDR conversations are well planned and useful, we are offering virtual Effective SDR workshops - upcoming dates are listed on the course calendar. All staff are welcome to attend and there will be an opportunity to look at the coaching skills which help support this new approach.
