Reward scheme for academics (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer & Reader) and Faculty and Language Centre Teaching and Scholarship StaffAcademic and Faculty and Language Centre Teaching and Scholarship Staff who have significantly and consistently exceeded the normal expectation of their role may apply for a contribution increment, accelerated increment, or one-off or non-consolidated payment (honoraria) in line with the process outlined at section 6 of the School Reward & Recognition Procedure:
Staff who wish to be considered for an Accelerated, Additional increment, Contribution increment or One-off non-consolidated payment may make a case for an award by completing the Reward and Recognition Application Form (msword; 39kb) , providing a brief – not more than 500 words – statement providing evidence against the relevant criteria.
Examples of relevant criteria and information regarding Accelerated, additional increments, Contribution increments or One-off non-consolidated payments are detailed in the SOAS Recognition & Rewards Procedure available at http://www.soas.ac.uk/hr/procedures/reward/rewardrecog/.
The aim of this process is to provide a coherent and practical approach to both recurrent and one-off or non-consolidated payments made to staff in order to reward individual contribution within their role, and to ensure transparency, fairness and equality for all staff.
Rewards should relate to the academic and how he/she carried out their role and not to the role itself. In making an application you should clearly state how the request fulfills the criteria for reward, see Recognition & Rewards Procedure, available at http://www.soas.ac.uk/hr/procedures/reward/rewardrecog/. You must make it relevant to your role as it will not otherwise be considered by the Faculty Promotions Panel.
Supporting statements by the Head of Department should reflect their own clearly identified strategic objectives and indicate clearly how the performance of the relevant member of staff contributed in achieving these and in relation to the Academic Performance Framework.
The award of contribution and accelerated scale increments should be used to recognise an individual’s application of accelerated knowledge, skills and/or behaviours which increase their contribution towards School, Faculty/Language Centre and Departmental objectives, over and above the normal expectations of the role for a sustained period (normally more than one year) or where the requirement is clearly on-going.
Applications require a statement by the Head of Department, which should be provided on the relevant section on the Reward and Recognition Application Form (msword; 39kb) .
Academic Staff and Faculty & Language Centre Teaching & Scholarship Staff who wish to apply for a reward should complete the Reward and Recognition Application Form by 17:00 on Thursday 13 October 2016 and pass it to the relevant Faculty Administrator. The form should clearly state how the request fulfills the criteria relevant to your role(s).
Heads of Department should provide a statement at the relevant section and submit the completed form electronically to the relevant Faculty Administrator by 17:00 on Friday 28 October 2016. The Head of Department must complete the relevant section whether or not they wish to support the application, and in the latter case they should make clear the grounds for not supporting the application within the statement.
Head of Department Recommendation
In addition to the direct route for employees the Head of Department may also make a recommendation on behalf of an employee or a Team by completing the Reward and Recognition Application Form.
The form should clearly state how the request fulfills the criteria relevant to the role(s) and should not be more than a 500-word statement. The Head of Department should submit the completed form electronically to the relevant Faculty Administrator by 17:00 on Friday 28 October 2016 for consideration at the relevant Faculty Promotion Panel.
Academic Staff (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader) and Faculty & Language Centre Teaching & Scholarship Staff who wish to be considered for an accelerated, additional increment, contribution increment or one-off non-consolidated payment may apply.
There is normally a one year qualifying period for all types of payment by the date of submission of the application, i.e. you should have been in post for one year by the time you submit your application.
The Faculty Promotions Panel may postpone making a decision and ask to see (or request a written response from) the member(s) of staff and/or her or his Departmental Head to obtain further information.
Completed applications must be submitted electronically to your Faculty Administrator no later than Thursday 13 October 2016. Heads of Department will then have until 28th October to provide completed forms to the Faculty Administrator. HR Directorate September 2016
