1) SOAS does not have an IT department. It has a Library & Information Services Directorate, within which there are Information Systems (IS) and Customer Services departments. These departments carry out tasks that might be considered to fall within the traditional remit of an IT department. There is also a multi-media and print services department of 11 staff which similarly carries out some tasks that could be seen as IT. Within IS there are 14 people and 4 unfilled vacancies. There are approximately 5 staff within Customer Services with a specific IT remit.

  • Infrastructure?
    We do not outsource infrastructure.
  • Desktops/Laptops/Thin Clients?
    We do not outsource desktops/laptops or thin clients.
  • Systems Development / Applications Management?
    We do not outsource development. We outsource some elements of Application Management to ULCC, Northgate Arinso, InTechnology and Unit4.

3) 91 Apple, 1468 PCs.

4) 30 Apple, 77 PCs.

5) No thin client hardware is in use but there is a remote access terminal server.

6) We support Windows Server 2008 R2 and Suse Linux Enterprise Edition. We also have an instance of Red Hat and a single Solaris system.

7) 89 Physical servers are in use.

8) There are 53 VMs in Corporate Systems in use and 64 VMs in our infrastructure cluster.
