Online English Testing (DuoLingo and TOEFL At Home)
We understand that the coronavirus has had an impact on the ability of students from many regions to take the IELTS, TOEFL and PTE Academic test, as test centres have been closed. We therefore will be accepting the Duolingo and the TOEFL IBT At Home online tests from all International and European applicants for the September 2020 intake, on an interim basis, to help guide us on our assessments for undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses.
If you live in a region where SELTS are available to be taken at a test centre, you should make arrangements to take a SELT as your test of first choice. Please only take these online exams in regions where SELTS are not available.
Please note that Distance Learning applicants must achieve direct unconditional scores in all instances as In-sessional and Pre-sessional courses are not available for distance learning courses. 'Distance learning' in this context refers to courses such as these SOAS Online and Distance Learning courses, not regular SOAS degree courses which are going online because of Covid-19.
In all cases, the acceptable date for submission of your English test results for entry in the 2020 year is now June 30th.

The English assessor will use these entrypoints as guidelines for making a decision on the most suitable pathway for the applicant based on the test results given, together with an assessment of the application overall. If deemed necessary, follow up assessment may be required.
We will continue to keep the situation under review and we will keep you informed of any further changes we may introduce to help you with your application to SOAS University of London.
