Working After Your Studies
The new Graduate route was launched on 1 July 2021. Undergraduate and Masters students that successfully apply for this visa will be able to stay in the UK and work - or look for work - at any skill level for two years. Doctoral students will be able to stay for three years. You will be able to apply as follows:
- If you began a one-year Masters programme in 2020 via distance learning you must have made a successful Student visa application and arrived in the UK on or before 27 September 2021 to complete your programme. You can then apply for the Graduate route.
- If you began a one-year Masters programme in 2020 and have already travelled to the UK during the period of your Tier 4/ Student visa, you will be able to make a Graduate route application as long as you are present in the UK before the end date of your Tier 4/ Student visa.
- If you began a one-year Masters programme in 2021, you will need to be in the UK on a Student visa before 6 April 2022. However SOAS expects all students to be studying in the UK by the start of term 2 in January 2022.
- If you are a final-year undergraduate or PhD student with a Tier 4/ Student visa sponsored by SOAS, you will be able to apply for the Graduate route once you have been awarded your degree (and the results reported to UKVI), regardless of any distance learning that you have undertaken or will undertake either in the UK or overseas between the period of 24 January 2020 and 6 April 2022. However SOAS expects all students to be studying in the UK by the start of term 2 in January 2022.
Please note you must be in the UK on a Tier 4/ Student visa to be eligible and must apply.
Due to the high demand for the Graduate route, the Student Advice Service will not be able to provide one-to-one advice. However, the team will be providing a Graduate route webinar on Thursday 28 October at 2pm. There is no need to book, please just click this link at the start time. If you cannot make this time, we will upload a recording of the webinar to this webpage.
Note: please do not make your Graduate route application until you have confirmation from SOAS that your 'successful completion' has been confirmed to UKVI. This can only be confirmed after your results are published. For details about publishing of results, please see this SOAS webpage for Undegraduates and this page for Postgrad taught students.
Doctorate Extension Scheme
The Doctorate Extension Scheme closed on 1 July 2021 when the new Graduate route opens. Please see above.
