University of Washington, USA

MSc in Public Policy, Finance and Management (SOAS) and a Global Masters in Public Administration (UW)
We offer an exciting opportunity to study a dual masters programme between SOAS and the University of Washington, based in Seattle, USA
This programme provides students with a conceptual understanding of the core principles of public policy and public management and with the tools to apply knowledge to solve problems in the public sector.
These competences and skills are extremely important to cope with the challenges that governments, public sector agencies, NGOs and businesses face on a daily basis.
From migration to the eradication of poverty, from unemployment to the development of energy power, the many issues that societies encounter call for the capacity to analyse, understand, and formulate interventions to bring about improvements to challenging living conditions of people worldwide.
The core modules of this programme provide students with the means to tackle issues of policy-making and implementation, strategy in the public sector, and managing organisational change.
Students can start their programmes of study at either institution and should apply to the institution where they wish to start their studies, clearly indicating that they wish to be considered for the dual degree.
The curriculum is structured into three equal parts: core courses, elective courses, and a thesis on a topic of the student’s choice completed with one-on-one faculty advising.
Core courses, which draw on examples and cases from Europe and across the world, include:
- Public Policy and Management: Perspectives and Issues
- Emerging Economy Finance
- Innovation and Organisational change
- Research Methods
- Fiscal Governance, Budgeting and Performance
