A defence analyst for many years, his teaching nowadays focuses on Just War and the ethics and ecological impact of modern air power. A Muslim himself, he also researches and regularly lectures on various aspects of Islam. He is the author or editor of eight books as well as dozens of book chapters, journal articles and encyclopaedia entries. He is a member of the British Armed Forces Muslim Association and serves as Strategic Policy Advisor to Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri and the international Minhaj-ul-Quran welfare, human-rights and education organisation that Dr Qadri heads.
