Accredited Courses

After a successful year of running this programme online, SOAS Language Centre Diplomas will be offered fully online from September 2021.

Our courses in Communicative Arabic, Chinese and Japanese provide an accelerated way to gain mastery of a language that is accredited by the award of a widely-recognised SOAS Certificate of Higher Education. These courses were created over 20 years ago due to a demand from UK Government Organisations to provide a fast track and intensive method enabling learners to progress from a complete beginner to an advanced level in order to communicate proficiently in the chosen language.

• Certificate/Diploma in Communicative Arabic, Online Full time 21-22. Applications open for Term 2 January 2022 entry only (Post-Beginners) Application deadline: 23rd November 21.
• Certificate/Diploma in Communicative Chinese, Full-time 
• Certificate/Diploma in Communicative Japanese, Full-time Applications for 2022-23 will be open in March. 

Madeline, a student on the 20-21 course says "Before I started the diploma in 2020, I was a bit nervous about it being online and wasn’t quite sure how it would work. It was clear from day one, however, that all of our teachers had fully prepared for the online transition and so it was very easy to quickly adjust. I have now come to love online learning as it allows me the freedom to study from anywhere in the world (I have moved from London, to Bristol, to Scotland - all while missing zero classes!). Due to the constant communication over a variety of online platforms, I don’t feel like I am missing out on the classroom experience at all! I feel very well-connected to my teachers and classmates, and know that I have made friendships that will last well beyond this year. Overall, online learning with my teachers has been wonderful and a fantastic alternative to in-person teaching.”
