SOAS Language Centre/Qatar Foundation International CPD Programme in Teaching Arabic in UK Schools
SOAS Language Centre, in association with Qatar Foundation International, is offering a programme of professional development running over the academic year 2016-17 comprising:
• An intensive one-week practical Teacher Training Workshop at SOAS in London running 24th-28th October, 2016. A schedule for this will later be sent to successful applicants.
• Post-workshop mentoring by an experienced SOAS Arabic Teacher Trainer that includes:
- Approx. 3 classroom school visits/observations by a mentor and
- 6 virtual meetings/forums (online or via Skype)
It is especially important that you are available for all observations and meetings as cancellations and re-scheduling will not be possible. Participants are also expected to actively contribute to the exchange of views and discussions on the online training forum. If accepted, you are expected to fulfill all these requirements and be a part of the training programme from its start to its end.
The Purpose of the Programme
The purpose of this UK Professional Development programme hosted by SOAS Language Centre is for current of aspiring teachers of Arabic in the UK to develop their skills and knowledge related to the communicative approach of teaching Arabic as a foreign language as well as to get hands-on experience and feedback on how to implement best practices in teaching Arabic for communicative purposes.
Novice teachers and teachers in training are welcome to apply but all must be, or be about to become, teachers of Arabic in UK schools (state or private) at KS1-5. Applicants should be resident in the UK during academic year 2016-17 and have a strong command of Arabic and English.
