Terms and Conditions for All Accredited Programmes

Terms and Conditions for All Accredited Programmes

Fees:

Fees for academic year 2018-2019 are effective for all courses starting from 1st August 2018 and are not subject to V.A.T.

Payment in instalments is only accepted for full-time Certificate and Diploma programmes, with the instalments specified in the webpage information.

Fees for all courses are exclusive of course materials.

Corporate Payments:

Sponsors must supply an official purchase order or a letter confirming that the company will be responsible for payment of the student’s fees. An invoice will be issued.

Please ensure that the purchase order accompanies the application form.

Failure to do comply with the above may result in withdrawal of a student from the course and/or the student becoming liable for payment immediately.

Cancellation of Enrolment and Withdrawal from Courses:

We strongly advise you to ensure that you will be able to attend for the whole of the course before enrolling. SOAS Language Centre cannot accept any responsibility for unforeseen changes in students’ circumstances that may prevent their attendance for all or part of a course.

No refunds can be given for classes not attended and students are reminded that there is an 80% attendance requirement for successful completion of an accredited course.

All cancellations of enrolment must be received in writing (including email) by the Language Centre at least 20 working days before the start of the course. Note that course here means separately the Certificate course running in terms 1 and 2 and the following Diploma course running in Term 3. In exceptional cases, refunds may be given at the discretion of the Language Centre Director and with 10% of the total course fee deducted for administrative costs.

No refunds for any Term 1 can be given once the term in question has started.

Refunds will be returned in the same way as the payment was made. Please note that the refund procedure may take up to four weeks.

Students not wishing to continue to Term 2 and who will, therefore, not complete the Certificate must notify us by 30th November 2018 at the latest. They will be withdrawn from the Certificate programme before the December assessments and can attend classes in December as auditors only. They may also enrol as auditors in Terms 2 and 3. Information about auditing may be obtained from the programme administrator.

Students who have paid for the Certificate and/or Diploma terms but who notify their withdrawal by 30th November may be given a full or partial refund of the fees already paid for subsequent terms depending on the circumstances of withdrawal and at the discretion of the Language Centre Director.

No refunds can be given to students who do not notify us of their intended withdrawal by 30th November.

Quorum Requirements:

Our accredited programmes are subject to quorum requirements and normally, a minimum of 8 students per course are required for it to run in each of the three terms.

If the course does not reach the quorum number in any term, including the final Term3 Diploma phase, the course may not run. In such a case, the Language Centre Administrator will inform applicants, normally within 10 days before the start of the term, and advise them as to alternative language study options.

General:

Our accredited programme classes are limited to a maximum of 16 students per class.

Accredited programmes are only for learners aged 18 and over.

We strongly advise you to enrol and pay at least a month before the start date as places are allocated on a ‘first come’ basis. Places cannot be reserved in advance without payment.

Overseas students are responsible for ensuring that they have the correct Study Visa for the entire duration of the programme. Non-compliance with visa regulations will be reported to the UK Home Office.

Students undertake to abide by the SOAS Code of conduct - Student Disciplinary Procedure 2012/13 (pdf; 143kb) at all times.

These terms and conditions may be subject to change without prior notice and revised versions posted on our website.
