Mode of Attendance: Part-time

The course is a natural progression from the Cantonese Elementary course. The course consists of three terms (each term consists of 10 weeks) with a continued focus on developing the practical listening, spoken and reading skills of the course participants, but gradually moving on to use the target language to express one’s ideas and viewpoints with a wider range of vocabulary on various topics. By the end of the course, the participants should be able to engage in discussions of non-specialist current topics.

Course participants will have the freedom to develop their own vocabulary depending on their interest, and will develop the skills to gather information from authentic sources in Cantonese.

Method

The course is taught in English and Cantonese and includes coverage of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and a good balance between understanding the systems of Cantonese grammar and vocabulary, developing the skills of comprehending and producing Cantonese in speech and writing, guided practice in language usage and use and authentic communicative activities. Class size is limited to fifteen to allow intensive interactive practice with individual feedback and advice on progress.
