HSK Level 1 Prep standard course is designed for learners who do not have any knowledge of Chinese language or have just started learning Chinese and wanted to take part in the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi – Chinese language proficiency test) Level 1 test after finishing studying this course. It aims to build up learners’ confidence and interest in learning Chinese language at the first stage, as well as acquiring learning and testing strategies. It corresponding to Level 1 of Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and Level A1 of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
After finishing studying the course for two terms, candidates will master the language skills in Chinese based on the HSK Level 1 and learnt at least for 150 most frequently used Chinese words and relevant grammar. Candidates who have passed the HSK Level 1 test would have a good grasp of basic Chinese and be able to communicate in simple and limited routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters, their Chinese proficiency reaching the advanced beginner’s level or above.
The course runs termly for two terms and each term for 10 weeks (2 hours a week) to provide students with training in listening and reading comprehension skills without neglecting practice in pronunciation and the Chinese characters recognition. By the end of the level 1 prep course, participants should be able to pass the HSK Level 1 test successfully (with an officially approved certificate) and make steady progress in their Chinese learning.
The HSK Level 1 standard prep course is taught by our very experienced native Mandarin Chinese teachers in both English and Chinese. Using officially recognized textbook plus some past New HSK Level 1 test papers includes coverage of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and a good balance between understanding the systems of Chinese pronunciation, grammar and vocabularies, developing comprehension skills and producing accurate Chinese speech and writing. This preparatory course not only ensures the quantity and quality of the exercises students have, but also allows them to be exposed to the past New HSK tests in their daily study, so students don’t have to spend extra time in trying to get familiar with the question types of the New HSK Level 1 test before they take it.
The main features of this course are combination of teaching and testing, scientific and well-arranged, practical and effective, diverse situations, natural and humorous. The course offers guided practice in language use and authentic communicative activities. Class size is limited to fifteen people to allow intensive interactive practice with individual feedback and advice on progress.
