Mode of Attendance: Part-time

This HSK Level 3 Prep course is designed to further develop students’ ability to use Chinese in daily life, corresponding to Level 3 of Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and Level B1 of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Applying for the HSK Level 3 Prep course, candidates who have passed the HSK Level 2 test or have reached a standard in Chinese equivalent to HSK Level 2 or completed Elementary level. They should have already learnt at the least 300 most frequently used Chinese words and aiming to master 600 most frequently used Chinese words and relevant grammar points. It aims to further build up learners’ confidence and interest in learning Chinese language at this stage, as well as acquiring learning and testing strategies. Level assessments will be offered, apart from those who are HSK Level 2 certificate holders.

The course runs termly for three terms and each term for 10 weeks (2 hours a week) to provide students with training in listening and reading comprehension skills without neglecting practice of pronunciation and characters writing. By the end of the Level 3 Prep course (term 3), participants should be able to pass the HSK Level 3 test successfully (with an officially approved certificate) and make steady progress continuously in their Chinese learning. Those who passed the HSK Level 3 test can show that they have a good grasp of Chinese and their Chinese proficiency would be reaching pre-intermediate level or above, which means they have stably learnt 600 most frequently used Chinese words and relevant grammar points. They would be capable of using Chinese to fulfill the basic communication activities encountered in their life, study and work and handle most of the communication tasks when they travel in China.

The HSK Level 3 standard prep course is taught by our very experienced native Mandarin Chinese teachers mainly in Chinese with English support. Based on an officially recommended textbook plus some past New HSK Level 3 test papers, the course integrates the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and offers a good balance between understanding the systems of Chinese grammar and vocabularies, further developing comprehension skills and producing more accurate Chinese speech and writing. This preparatory course provides students with relevant test practice using past New HSK tests to familiarize them with the question types of the New HSK Level 3 test and train them in effective test-taking strategies.
The main features of this course are combination of teaching and testing, scientific and well-arranged, practical and effective, diverse situations, natural and humorous. The course engages students in communicative guided practice tasks and authentic language use and activities alongside the test preparation exercises. Class size is limited to twelve people to maximize opportunities for interactive practice and allow for individual feedback and advice on progress.
