This course aims to reinforce the skills of communicating in Korean acquired on our Advanced course or similar courses. Having completed this course, learners should be able to:
- Engage in discussions on various social and cultural topics
- Understand parts of news broadcasts and written articles on current affairs
- Understand and use information presented in the media
- Understand and use abstract and idiomatic expressions
This course is taught mainly in Korean and covers the four essential skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course will involve a lot of discussions in addition to listening comprehension of authentic materials. Preparation for lessons is essential for the course.
The course is taught in English and Korean Language and includes coverage of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and a good balance between understanding the systems of Korean Language grammar and vocabulary, developing the skills of comprehending and producing Korean Language in speech and writing, guided practice in language usage and use and authentic communicative activities.

There is no set textbook for students to buy for this course.
Entry Requirements and Progression Route
To be able to join Korean Proficiency course you should have completed a Korean Advanced at SOAS Language Centre or have an equivalent knowledge of guided learning hours (approximately 420 hours). The progression route from Korean Proficiency 1 is to Korean Proficiency 2; from Proficiency 2 to Proficiency 3.
