Introduction to Sanskrit (Part 1)
is aimed at those who are interested in finding out about the Sanskrit language, its relationship to other languages, its origin and development and its writing system. It can be taken as a ‘stand-alone’ course or as a precursor to further language study (Introduction to Sanskrit, Part 2; Sanskrit Beginners 1).

The purchase of a course book is not necessary, since all the relevant materials are provided by email.

There is no assessment for the course and application is open to all. The course requires participants to work through the materials sent to them. Preparation time of around 2 hours between sessions is required. There is no graded homework component and no end of course test.

Introduction to Sanskrit (Part 2)
is suitable for those who have taken and completed Part 1. It is ideal for participants who can already read the Devanāgarī script and who wish to acquire a basic understanding of Sanskrit. The course focuses on simple grammar and aims to give participants the ability to read Sanskrit with accuracy.

Introduction to Sanskrit (Part 2) can be taken as a ‘stand-alone’ course or as a precursor to further language study (Sanskrit Beginners 1). The purchase of a course book is not necessary, since all the relevant materials are provided by e-mail.
