The aim of the course is to provide participants with a solid foundation in all four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). It enables participants to learn some basic grammatical forms and essential vocabulary. Participants will have opportunities to practise communicating in class about personal every day topics, such as daily routines and activities, hobbies, habits, etc. The course introduces participants to the basic principles of the Tamil writing system (with pronunciation) and enables them to read and write simple words and sentences. By the end of the course, participants will be able to recognise frequent words, phrases and sentences in Tamil script and read short, simple texts.

The course is taught in English and Tamil with coverage of the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, and a balance between communicative activities, structure practice and grammar. Class size is normally limited to fifteen to allow intensive practice.

Mode of Attendance: Part-time
