Information on Library membership and SOAS ID cards for SOAS Language Centre students
For Students on a Short Course
As a student registered on a short course, you are entitled to a paper ID/library card that gives you reference access to the SOAS library.
The card in question does not activate the turnstiles in the main building or at Vernon Square. You will need to present your card to a member of the security staff who will then give you access to the building.
All short course students are sent a course confirmation and a library letter. The library letter is used to obtain a paper library card. If you no longer have this letter, the Language Centre can issue you with a new one. Short course students do not get a photo ID card.
For Students on an Accredited Course
As a student on an accredited course, you are entitled to a laminated photo ID/library card. This gives you access through the turnstiles and borrowing rights with the SOAS library.
All students on accredited courses are registered on the SOAS database (Unit-e). This confirms enrolment. All students can report to the library with their six digit student number and obtain a photo ID/library card.
Obtaining Your Card
Language Centre students may obtain their SOAS ID card (paper card or photo card as explained above), which confers library membership, during the normal opening hours of the Library. Library services shut down 15 minutes before closing times.
You are advised to carry your SOAS ID card whenever you are at SOAS.
