In the past SOAS law graduates have chosen to pursue a wide range of careers ranging from legal practice as solicitors and barristers in the UK and overseas to careers in international organisations, business, marketing, the new economy as well as the civil service, academe and politics. The SOAS Careers Service organises activities for both undergraduate and postgraduate law students throughout the academic year, and its designated Careers Consultant is able to provide one-to-one careers advice to individual students by appointment. In addition, the School of Law also has a Careers Tutor who organises a programme of careers seminars open to both undergraduates and postgraduates at which alumni and friends of the School will provide students with practical insights into their careers.
SOAS alumni are encouraged to stay in touch with the School of Law and already participate in careers-related events and our targeted mentoring programme.
For careers-related events, please consult the SOAS Careers Service.
The SOAS Law Society and Bar Society, supported by the School of Law, also organise many events and legal skills workshops that are helpful to students in thinking about their future careers and in developing their practical skills as future lawyers. The students-run societies are also able to point students to the numerous events organised by professional bodies and law firms throughout London.
