Student Life
Our students join and take part in activities organised by the SOAS Student Union and its many clubs. Chief amongst these for students of the School of Law are the SOAS Law Society and the SOAS Bar Society. These societies organise careers and networking events, skills workshops, a Law clinic, mooting competitions and social events. The SOAS Law Journal provides a platform for students and alumni to publish high quality legal scholarship. Banyan: SOAS Advocates is a network of postgraduate SOAS students, which provides pro bono legal research on cutting edge questions of development, human rights and social justice.
The School of Law also organises careers events with leading practitioners in the field exploring a range of traditional as well as non-traditional career paths. Our Careers Service provides one to one careers advice, practice interviews and organises the SOAS Law and Justice Fair. The School of Law organises field trips, public lectures and court visits. There is a vibrant mooting scene at SOAS which forms part of the assessment for International Commercial Arbitration. There are numerous opportunities to be involved in external mooting competitions. This year, for example, SOAS will be sending teams to compete at the ESU-Essex Court Mooting Competition, Inner Temple Inter-Varsity Moot, Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, ICC Moot Court Competition, LSE-Featherstone Moot, and the IBA-VIAC CDRC Vienna Mediation and Negotiation Competition. SOAS also regularly sends a team to the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
