Entry Requirements

The below are guidelines only and do not guarantee entry. Each application will be judged on its own merits.

Undergraduate

Students who have completed the International Baccalaureate, A-Levels, AP examinations or the French Baccalaureate will be considered for direct entry to undergraduate programmes. For students holding the French Baccalaureate, SOAS requires a score of 14-15/20 for courses with a AAA-AAB A-Level requirement.

Applicants who have completed the Lebanese Baccalaureate will be required to complete a Foundation Year before applying for undergraduate study.

Postgraduate

SOAS will consider applications from students who have completed a Bachelor's degree from a recognised institution in Lebanon with a GPA of 2.8/4.0, 14/20 or 70% overall.

Research applicants would normally be expected to have completed a Masters qualification from a good university.

In addition, you should check the individual programme of study for any specific academic requirements. Please refer to the Postgraduate Admissions pages for more information.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants whose first language is not English will normally need provide evidence of their English language proficiency. Please check the English language requirements page for detailed information. SOAS offers English pre-sessional summer courses for those who do not meet the exact entry requirements which allow students to improve their language skills before beginning academic study.

Foundation Courses

Those applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements or would like to improve their English language before studying for a degree could consider applying for one of the undergraduate or postgraduate foundation courses offered through the IFCELS centre at SOAS. International students can improve their English while studying academic courses in areas including Development Studies, International Business, Media and Communication and International Politics.
